The problem with bird lovers is that they tend to already have everything they need. Their garden is usually already stacked with bird feeders, they have the binoculars and probably have a bookshelf full of ID books. Below we have made some suggestions on gift ideas that are slightly different, a bit more unusual and will perhaps be the perfect gift.
Ok, so we just said that a bird lovers garden is already stacked with bird feeders… but are they like this one? A modern, sleek designed feeder from an innovative Dutch company called SingingFriend. They named this feeder LISA, it is aimed at those wanting something a bit different in the garden. A ceramic (slightly grainy textured finish), bowl type feeder that comes with a handy strap to hang the feeder. Takes all types of feed and if it does rain into the feeder a handy drainage hole will allow the water to drip away. Comes boxed which always it to be wrapped if being given as a gift.
Not everyone that loves birds has the luxury of a garden. Many may only have a balcony or just few windows. There is not much you can say about this feeder, it does what it says on the tin but it does allow for a close up view and allows those without gardens to feed the birds. The Nuttery who make this feeder have a reputation for creating good sturdy builds and in this case have dipped their toes into a more sustainable future by making it from recycled plastics. Once again comes in a box which as always makes it a lot easier to wrap a gift.
These are just quirky but what bird lover wouldn’t like these! These are ceramic salt and pepper shakers coming from the studios of Hannah Turner in Bristol. Not only are you supporting a British business but also the charity supporting women in Sri Lanka that make the feeders. They bring a modern twist and quirkiness to any kitchen, nicely boxed ready to be gifted.
Now you need to have someone with a sense of humour to gift these to. From a fabulous studio down South this range from Sarah Edmonds was a best selling gift over the Fathers Day period and we are betting that the same will happen this Christmas. So whilst we may have chosen the “Tits” version for this be aware there is also “Boobies”, “Peckers, “Hooters” and “Cocks” amongst others.
Basically see above but in tea towel form
Just one in a series of artwork by the wonderful York based Micklegate Designs. The Kingfisher is a incredibly popular bird, the thrill of seeing that electric blue flash as it zooms by never gets old. The prints from the “Birds of Yorkshire” collection are a more modern twist on the usual nature based prints and will liven us any room you or the person you gift it to put this in.
So you are giving a gift? Have you considered giving the gift of wildlife and joining them up to a Wildlife Trust? Here at Yorkshire Wildlife Trust we have a giftbox ready to go and we can easily ship to an address of your choice. The money goes directly back into the conservation work we carry out and as a added bonus they get membership to our Wildlife Trust!
Ok so we generalised and said most bird lovers already have everything they need… well it means not everyone has. We think that this is a perfect gift for a wildlife or bird lover just starting out, it has a little bit of everything. You have the traditional feeder, fatball holder, the balls that go in it and an ID guide. We know this isnt the cheapest box around but the reason is the Ring Pull feeder we have put in. We think these are the best traditional feeders around, easy to clean, sturdy build quality and a guarentee to boot.
So actually this isnt just for bird lovers, this is for wildlife lovers in general. A really high end finish that was actually created by an ex team member of ours. It pulls together stunning photography with interesting wildlife content. Think of it as one for curling up in front of the fire on a cold Autumn night. Perhaps this is more of a stocking filler or a gift just because instead of a main gift.
A sturdy bird box is always a welcome edition to any garden, this one is a good general one that will attract your standard garden birds. Easy to clean out and install there is not much more to say about this one!
